My name is Grace from Nairobi. I work in telecommunications as a marketer.
I hike because it is fun and enables me to keep fit as well.
I used to be an active Girl guide and ranger back in primary school and that is how I got interested in hiking. My parents also started a tradition of family trips every December which ignited in me the passion to discover what nature has to offer.
I had taken a break in 2005 and resumed hiking in 2015 by summiting Mt. Suswa which was difficult at first but with every summit my hunger for more challenging hikes arose. So far I have hiked a couple of mountains in Kenya which enabled me to summit mt. Kenya and Mt. Kilimanjaro all last year.
Kilimanjaro is my toughest hike to date. I almost gave up after the altitude affected my heart rate so I lost the energy to keep up with the rest of the group. I cried when I got to the summit and kept hugging the guide. It was soo emotional. I could not believe that I had summited the highest mountain in Africa!!!! What an accomplishment!
Hiking helped me lose weight, improve my social circle as I gained a lot of new friends, cure my depression, and to inspire my friends and family to take it up. It gave me a new lease of life. With every summit my hunger for more is ignited. I can’t wait to summit more mountains as time goes by. Hiking is truly Life!
